Reading Presentation | The Great Plague

This week I have been working with Joel on The Great plague. Today each peer or group presented there presentation in front of the class with a DLO, slideshow or a Kahoot. What I found interesting about my topic is, once a person passes away a red cross is drawn on there door ( if someone or people have passed). In our slideshow we did a timeline, summary, video ( as an example) and drawings of what it looked like back in the day. I felt really nervous presenting in front of the class while talking, but I tried my best to get over that fear. What I enjoy the most in this presentation was creating the drawing ( slide 5 ).

This week during Reading we have being working on Current Events. Each person in LS2 were able to choose a topic from kiwi kids news, NZ Herald or Kea Kids News. The topic I choose is called World's first plant selfie. Pete is a fern that takes photos of itself every 20 seconds. I found this topic interesting to read because it is really cool how Pete can take selfies of its own (itself). During this task we wrote a summary. To begin with we wrote down 20 important words, 6 most important words and 5 important sentences. At the end we changed our 5 important sentences into 10 syllables. 2019 RWC Stadium Capacities

This week I have been working with Angela, on the 2019 RWC Stadium Capacities DLO. Before we started our DLO's, we were able to work in peers or in a Trio. As a class we were able to choose, a question that was solved in our Maths books. We chose 49,970 of 3/4 question. How we solved this problem: 49,970 ፥ 4 = 12,493.5 then 12,493 + .5 = 12,494 x 3 = 37,478 (that's how we got our answer) .. The question was (If International Stadium Yokohama only half filled. How many spare seats would there be)?

World News | Reading

L.I: Exploring international current events.

This week for Reading we used Google Maps and looked international news that follow either of these reasons; Timeliness, Relevance, Magnitude, Unexpected, Impact, Reference, Oddity, Conflict, Negative, Continuity, Emotions, and Progress. Working in small groups, we located where the event took place and pinned them on the collaborative map. Using sites such as Kiwi kids News and NZ Herald. Last week we looked at national news meaning stuff only happening in New Zealand. Now we are exploring things that are happening all around the world, international. We found some very interesting world archives, such as the fire in the Amazon Rain-forest. 

Provaction and Opinion

A provaction is an action or speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Recently a major supermarket chain announced it will no longer sell energy drinks to people under 16. My opinion is recorded in my DLO that shows both perspectives. My opinion on both of them is that energy drinks taste really nice and is something that kids likes to drink and energy drinks are also bad for kids to drink.

Exploring our national current events

This week during Reading I have being working with Nyjah,Victoria, Florence and I. Authors make stories to entertain, persuade and inform. New editors make decisions every day about which stories they should write about. As a class we explored different type of stories that has happen in New Zealand and plotted the location on a google map.

Waltzing Matilda Poem, Summary and Main Ideas

This week Nyjah and I has read a poem called “Waltzing Matilda”. Waltzing Matilda is written by a famous author called Banjo Patterson. Banjo Paterson wrote lots of famous Australian poems as he was a poetry. We both made two collaborative DLOs. One was about the main idea and the other one was about the actual summary. For the summary we had to unpack the different languages and find out the actual meaning first. Then we wrote in 20 important words, took 6 most important words from those 20 and made a short summary about the story. The other DLO was about the main idea and the evidence to back it up. Their were 3 boxes (Detail 1, Detail 2 and Detail 3).

This week Mrs Anderson challenged our class to created a DLO on a google document and to use explore for our definitions and our images. This was so challenging for me cause I also doing my DLO's on a google draw not a google document. What I have learnt in this task is the meaning to Metaphor, Personification, a bit of Onomatopoeia, Hyperbole and Alliteration cause I haven't learnt about these in a very long time. 

Major Yuri Gagarin Animation

This week in reading we used our creative skills to create an animation or an ex planer movie about Yuri Gagarin, in groups. My group and I decided to create an animation. Before we created the animation, we planned it as a group. On a piece of paper we drew a S to include the information we wanted about Yuri Gagarin from the start to the finish. A fact about Yuri Gagarin is that he was the first cosmonaut to orbit earth in Vostok 1. After planning the animation, we started to create our animation, we chose a leader to tell us our job of creating our animation. We all decided that I was the right leader of our group. My group and I worked together as a team and helped each other to complete our animation. I think that everyone in my group had great create skills and are really talented in drawing digitally.

Sputnik 1,2,3 | Reading DLO

This week in Reading I have being working with my group Rangitoto on a presentation called sputnik 1,2,3. We were all given a slide to do. Main Ideas

This week in Reading I have worked with Joel, Avalon, Sakina, Miiana and I. We made a main ideas DLO that has the main points from the book that we read online. Their were 3 boxes (all important ideas, very important ideas and most important ideas). I learnt that Laika was the first animal to go into space. I also learnt that Russia was first country to launch the first satellite into space and they beat the USA to it.

A few days ago I have being working on my Care Awards. I am almost done with my Sliver Care Awards. This slide has 3 famous quotes that are from people that spoke up for freedom and so on. I explained the meaning of the quotes that I chose. I have being working very hard to complete this. If you got to choose someone that you know who would it be?

Smile / Reading Challenge #1

On the hoildays I was reading a book called Smile. This book is about a girl. One night she was coming back from a sleep over from her friends. As her and her friends were playing tag Raina she triped on the group and her 2 front teeth hit the ground and it came out. Her mum took Raina too the dentist so the doctor can tell Raina what is going on. At the end her 2 front teeth comes back and she can take a great photo. 

Current Events / Collaborative Reading Challenge

Today I have created 2 Current Event DLO with my collaborative group was Julian, Alice, Joseph, Giovanni and I. All of the Current Event DLO's  has to be one of the sites that are on the Reading Site.  One of the DLO's has to be an article that is in a different country and the last DLO has to be about an Article in New Zealand.

Timeline A History of the Protest/ Reading

Yesterday at Reading my group and I were doing Reciprocal Reading. Giovanni, Avalon, Sakina, Joel and I made a DLO that was explaining a timeline of the New Zealand history of protesting. We made 10 boxes that explains each page that we made in our own words. I learnt that men didn't want woman to vote for the new government or president for country's around the world to vote. There over 500 pages with 25,000 petitions that was signed by Women all around the world to vote. New Zealand was the first country that allowed women to vote.

Read Theory

Today I have read a text called Meet a Paleontologist. I am grade 5 on read theory. I have being reading different reading texts since last year. This story is about a person that is interviewing Rick Zinger about his job. His job is dental things. This is for a Young Scientist Magazine. Reading Progress this year

This year I have been learning new things about reading on a reading site called Read Theory. We had start from the beginning of the year, the middle of the year and around of the year. My highest progress this year which was grade 5 which I was actually impress of myself. Next year of this year I am going to try and get the progress score of 6 or 7.

Collaborative Comprehension

This week I have worked collaborative with Fui. We read 2 stories and answered the questions on the following slides. The topic we were working on was, The Battle of the Somme. Me and Fui skimmed and scanned the stories and found key words. The first slide everyone used ticks to tick the sentence that was right. I learnt that British and German people fought in the Battle of Somme. I also learnt that Germany retreated from the war, which meant Britain's plan was successful. We worked together on one slide and once we were finished we carried on another slide. It was challenging answering a few questions because it was hard finding the answer.

5 interesting words

Today I have started on a google slide with Marieta. Marieta drew 2 and I drew 5 drawings. We worked collaborative together. I have improve a lot with my drawing including Marieta. I learnt the meaning to 5 words and I have explained it on 5 slides.

Informal and Formal Text

This week I have being working on Informal and Formal Text. I didn't add too much information because I wanted to show more detail to the drawing, because if some people wants to know how   to draw they can learn easily steps. I also added an arrow to the drawing and to cover up the space.
