This week during Reading we have being working on Current Events. Each person in LS2 were able to choose a topic from kiwi kids news, NZ Herald or Kea Kids News. The topic I choose is called World's first plant selfie. Pete is a fern that takes photos of itself every 20 seconds. I found this topic interesting to read because it is really cool how Pete can take selfies of its own (itself). During this task we wrote a summary. To begin with we wrote down 20 important words, 6 most important words and 5 important sentences. At the end we changed our 5 important sentences into 10 syllables. If you would like to read my 10 syllables it is under the sub heading (My 10 syllables).

Water Filter

Last term for Inquiry Joseph, Nidhi, Miiana and I. There were groups of 4 or 5 with 1 year 7 as a leader per group. My group's leader was Miiana. The challenge for each group was to try and make your group's water clear. Before we made the experiment each group planned on what materials they were using. Using the materials we had.

2019 RWC Stadium Capacities

This week I have been working with Angela, on the 2019 RWC Stadium Capacities DLO. Before we started our DLO's, we were able to work in peers or in a Trio. As a class we were able to choose, a question that was solved in our Maths books. We chose 49,970 of 3/4 question. How we solved this problem: 49,970 ፥ 4 = 12,493.5 then 12,493 + .5 = 12,494 x 3 = 37,478 (that's how we got our answer) .. The question was (If International Stadium Yokohama only half filled. How many spare seats would there be)?

Explanation : LGBTQ

LGBTQ
How do you feel about the LGBTQ commuinty? Nearly everyday humans question themselves about what they identify with. The meaning of LGBTQ is lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. Q is for those who are questioning themselves, on what they identify with. Do you know the colours of their new flag?

RESPECT
Just imagine if you were LGBT, wouldn't you want respect from your family and friends? So why not show respect towards those who are LGBT? People in the 1990's - now, have gained a lo,t of respect for those who are lgbt. Showing them the respect they need will make them feel more self - confident.

EMPATHY
Did you know that over 11 million people in the world are LGBT? Being understanding (towards their feelings) and accepting (understanding how they feel) is showing Empathy. Example: understanding someone and sharing feelings with one another can lift a lot of weight off both of your guys shoulders.

TOLERANCE
Not much people today can show tolerance. There are two sides (disliking things and agreeing with things). In my opinion i think we should be showing tolerance to those people that are still figuring out their identify, which does that a lot of time.. We all have different opinions about things.

I have finally come to my conclusion. I talked about many things about the LGBTQ community, but If you were still wondering about the meaning of the LGBTQ colours on the flag is: Red means life, Orange means healing, Yellow means sunshine, Green means nature, Blue means harmony and Violet means spirit.

This week during Writing, LS2 (yr 7 and yr 8) have created a explanation of our choice that showed Respect, Empathy, Tolerance or something else of our choice.  I decided to go with LGBTQ for my explanation because it was really easy to go with Respect, Empathy and Tolerance. In the beginning we had 10 minutes of planning, 40 minutes of writing and a few minutes of drafting our work. The next day in the morning block we all had some time to proof read our writing.

Early Maori Enterprise

This week during Inquiry I worked with Florence, Fui and Victoria. As a class each group had a chance to say there syllables out loud that had 5 sentences. I found it so scary presenting my syllables to the class. The first text at the top was our original one, but then changed the sentences into 5 sentences and the syllables into 10.

Rugby World Cup : Rugby Pitch

This week for maths we had maths equations based off the Rugby World Cup. This time the challenges were related to Rugby Pitches, and we had to solve 6 questions including multiplication and addition. We worked with different partners and created a collaborative DLO about one of the questions we had to answer in example. We used number 5 which was.."A club tactically decides to narrow the width of their rugby pitch to make it easier for their players to defend. The original width of their pitch was 65m with a length of 90m. The new width is 55m. How much smaller is the new area of the pitch?" See how we worked it out in the google drawing above.

Provaction and Opinion

A provaction is an action or speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Recently a major supermarket chain announced it will no longer sell energy drinks to people under 16. My opinion is recorded in my DLO that shows both perspectives. My opinion on both of them is that energy drinks taste really nice and is something that kids likes to drink and energy drinks are also bad for kids to drink.

Swimming blog post | Lesson 2

This week during swimming we have being learning breath stroke (kicks), dolphin kicks, butterfly, back stroke (a bit). We were in the same swimming group that we were put into last week but the people that weren't here were able to choose a group. What I found a bit challenging  today was breathing under water while doing the dolphin kick all the way till the end. What we did during this lesson was trying to float in the water looking down and looking out of the water while doing 6 kicks each.

Major Yuri Gagarin Animation

This week in reading we used our creative skills to create an animation or an ex planer movie about Yuri Gagarin, in groups. My group and I decided to create an animation. Before we created the animation, we planned it as a group. On a piece of paper we drew a S to include the information we wanted about Yuri Gagarin from the start to the finish. A fact about Yuri Gagarin is that he was the first cosmonaut to orbit earth in Vostok 1. After planning the animation, we started to create our animation, we chose a leader to tell us our job of creating our animation. We all decided that I was the right leader of our group. My group and I worked together as a team and helped each other to complete our animation. I think that everyone in my group had great create skills and are really talented in drawing digitally.

Tech

Today at Tech we were created different shades and mixing in colours. As you can see at the top of sheet there are 3 boxes, the colour of those 3 colours are Primary colours. The 2 boxes below the primary colours those are called secondary colours because they are the second colour of the color wheel. At the bottom we mixed in Yellow and Blue to get the colour Green. I also did some Graduated Colours and Tint / Tone.  What is  your guys favorite colour? My favorite colour is Gold and Yellow and I dislike the colour Purple.

Inspiring Quotes/ Excellence and Innovation

A few days ago I have being working on my Care Awards. I am almost done with my Sliver Care Awards. This slide has 3 famous quotes that are from people that spoke up for freedom and so on. I explained the meaning of the quotes that I chose. I have being working very hard to complete this. If you got to choose someone that you know who would it be?

My Passion/ Excellence and Innovation

Last year and a bit of this year I have being fixing up my Passion DLO. My favorite passion is Netball because I love to shoot and run. As you can see the image on the DLO it shows my old Netball team in 2017. We placed 2nd in our pool. We played at the AMI courts. We played every Tuesday.  In the start of term  year some of us didn't know how to play, but as we practise and played more games we started to improve with our Netball skills. My first ever time playing Netball was in 2016. I started off doing Center but now I do GS because I love to shoot.  My other passion is Swimming because it is really fun learning new skills and watching a Swimming Class.

New Zealander that shows Excellence and Innovation/ Care Award

A few weeks ago I have made a DLO about Edmund Hillary.  I am completing different Care Award challenges to get to my Gold Care Award, so far I need to do one more Care Award to get to Gold. For this Care Award challenge we got a choice of choosing someone that shows Excellence and Innovation of what they do. I chose Edmund Hillary because he showed pride and he took a risk with Tenzing Norgay of climbing up the biggest Mountain in the world Mt Everest. In 2008 was 88 years old. He was born in 1919 and passed in 2008, right now he would be 100 years old  this year if he was still alive. If you have someone in mind that you would choose that shows/ showed Excellence and Innovation who would you choose?

All of the Current Event DLO's  has to be one of the sites that are on the Reading Site.  One of the DLO's has to be an article that is in a different country and the last DLO has to be about an Article in New Zealand.

Yesterday at Reading my group and I were doing Reciprocal Reading. Giovanni, Avalon, Sakina, Joel and I made a DLO that was explaining a timeline of the New Zealand history of protesting. We made 10 boxes that explains each page that we made in our own words. I learnt that men didn't want woman to vote for the new government or president for country's around the world to vote. There over 500 pages with 25,000 petitions that was signed by Women all around the world to vote. New Zealand was the first country that allowed women to vote.

Kiwi Sport/ Ki O Rahi

Image result for ki o rahi

Today was our second session of Ki O Rahi. In the start we were practising our kicking, we were aiming to kick towards the tupo. Afterwards we started to play some Golden Child. We were split into 2 teams one team ran and the other team got a chance to throw the ball to the tupo. There were 2 guardians marking the tupo. The team that hits the tupo calls out Motu, and the person that is running has to stop were they are. The only way for the person to go back where they were in the start has to wait for the Golden child to run and touch the poles. If the other team doesn't call out Motu the other team wins that round.
